What to know about pink eye symptoms
December 13th, 2011 | by sa |Cases of pinkeye that are caused by bacteria and viruses are contagious; cases caused by allergies or environmental irritants are not. Common pink eye symptoms are:
• Feeling as if something is in the eye (foreign-body sensation or keratoconjunctivitis).
• An itching or burning feeling.
• Mild sensitivity to light (photophobia).
• Drainage from the eye.
It is important to know that “pink eye” is a simple term that refers to several medical causes of conjunctivitis. Many optometrists and ophthalmologists use the term to refer to viral conjunctivitis, a highly contagious infection that can be caused by a variety of viruses. A severe attack of pink eye will aggravate the conjunctiva of the eye to the point that it feels, hot, itchy and burning. Bathing the eye with cool water may relieve the irritation temporarily.
